Indian Football Team has dropped five places in FIFA rankings, released today and now are placed at 172 with 122 points. Malaysia and Mauritius are above and below India respectively, in the rankings.
This drop in rankings come after back to back losses against Turkmenistan and Oman in the away fixture of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier, which India lost 2-1 and 3-0 respectively.
With the release of latest FIFA rankings, Indian Team is back to where it was before the commencement of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier.
India's losses against Guam and Turkmenistan in the World Cup Qualifiers, which were considered to be weaker, has cost the team precious ranking points which has led to the slide. Both the teams started below India in rankings, when the Qualifiers started. But Guam and Turkmenistan continued to give good performance and earn some crucial points, India's poor form and lack of practice resulted in a five match losing streak.
India has a good chance to restrict the slide in rankings if the team manages to beat Guam in their return leg of World Cup Qualifier, to be played on November 12 at Bengaluru. Indian players are getting vital game time in ongoing Hero ISL. But with ISL Franchisees releasing Indian Team bound players only before 4 days of the match, it may prove to be detrimental the players who may not get enough time to gel as a unit for the crucial match.
