McDOWELL MOHUN BAGAN: NO MORE

Mohun Bagan Athletic Club has removed McDowell's name from Profile Pictures of their Official Facebook and Twitter account . This comes after recent spats between the Club and United Spirits Limited, Parent Company of McDowell's, over unpaid Sponsorship dues.

USL has been the main Sponsors of Mohun Bagan Since 1998 under a 50:50 Partnership allowing them to Own 50% stakes in Mohun_Bagan, renaming the club as McDowell's Mohun Bagan.

USL pereviously owned by Liquor Baron Vijay Mallya, was acquired by Diego PLC- British Makers of Johnnie Walker Whiskey and Smirnoff Vodka. Earlier this year it was reported that Diego PLC will reduce the Sponsorship amount to Mohun Bagan from 8 crores to 5 crores which was sure to affect the club which was already struggling to pay the salaries of its players and support staff. USL's inabilty to pay sponsorship dues in time had already soured the relationship between the club and the company.

Mohun Bagan Officials were mulling legal options and moved to court against McDowells over non payment of dues. It was expected that after winning their first I-League title, their Sponsorship issued would be solved but things haven't improved for the 126 Year old club. They played 2015 Calcutta Fooltball League Premier Division without any title sponsors which has also affected their plan to play a pre season tournament in Bangladesh.

With this new development, we hope that the club can acquire a new sponsor and comeback with a bang to defend their I League title, hopefully without changing their name.
