I-LEAGUE'S PUNE QUOTA FULFILLED

DSK Shivajians FC, the Pune based club are set to make their debut in India's premier football league, via direct entry.

As per reports by Goal.com, Shirish Kulkarni, Chairman of the club along with Ardeshir Jeejebhoy, CEO of Liverpool International Football Academy DSK Shivajians, held a meeting with Mr, Praful Patel, President of All India Football Federation in Mumbai to discuss the modalities.

AIFF has already invited bids from Corporates for a direct entry in I-League, November 7 being the last date and DSK Shivajians are expected to be announced as the new team after the bids are officially opened.

The club which was supposed to participate in 2nd Division League starting from November 14th and were part of Western Conference, have already appointed Derrick Pereira, who managed Salgaocar FC in last year's I League, as their head coach. Incidently, Periera has also coached another Pune based club, Pune FC from 2009 till 2013.

Pune FC and Bharat FC, the two Pune based outfits, who according to reports have decided to shutdown their Senior Teams are yet to make any official statement but this development can be seen as a confirmation that next season, we may have only one team from Pune.

It would be interesting to know how the club will create a fan base in a city that has given nothing more than a cold shoulder to Football Clubs. Pune FC, established in 2007 failed to garner fan support despite giving good results which include 2nd place finish in 2012-13 season which also earned them a place in AFC Cup.
