2nd Division League: Guwahati holds Neroca, Fateh Hyderabad Suffer another Defeat


Neroca FC's three match winning streak in 2nd Division League: Eastern Conference came to a halt as their today's match against Guwahati FC ended in a goal less draw. The match played at Khuman Lampak Stadium, Imphal, saw more than 11000 fans throng the stadium to support the local team, but left with sad faces as their team failed to score any goals.

Neroca FC, who finished on the winning side when they met Guwahati FC in their previous encounter, went into the game with the intention of picking up 3 points but the resilient defence of the Rhinos denied any chances.

Even after the draw, Neroca FC continue to lead the League Table in Eastern Zone, with 11 points off five games with 3 wins and two draws. They are also the only unbeaten team in Eastern Conference.


Neroca FC will have a well deserved mini vacation as their next match will be on 2nd January, as they host Gangtok Himalayan Sporting Club. Guwahati FC, on the other hand will be travelling back home, where they will be taking on Mohammedan SC on 26th December.


In the 2nd Match of the day in Eastern Conference, Mohammedan SC took on debutant club, Fateh Hyderabad AFC at Barasat Stadium, Kolkata. Fateh Hyderabad,who are yet to register their first win of 2nd Division League, succumbed to yet another defeat as they went down 2-1 against the Black Panthers.

Mohammedan SC opened the scoring in the 3rd minute itself, as Tonmoy Ghosh's stunner found the back of the opposition's net. Fateh's defence did not allow any more goals in the first half as the teams went into the break with host leading by a solitary goal.


The 2nd half started with the Hyderabadi team going on the offensive and were rewarded in the 53rd minute. A pass off Rinreithan Sheiza's found Shahil Bhatt in Mohammedan's danger area and he guided the ball into the opposition's net, levelling the score for his team.

The Kolkata based team were quick to respond and were back with the lead in the 68th minute as Mumtaz Akhtar scored to restore his team's lead and win the match.

With this win, Mohammedan SC are second in the league table and almost assured a berth for the next round. Fateh Hyderabad AFC on the other hand continue to languish at the bottom of the table, with only one point from 5 games.
