Shillong Lajong register 1st win of the Season

Salgaocar FC suffer 4th loss in a row as they go down against Shillong Lajong FC in their Round 4 match played at J.N. Stadium, Shillong. The Goan side coached by Malky Thompson are yet to earn a point this season and currently occupy bottom of the I-League table.

Shillong Lajong's new Brazilian recruit, Fabio Pena Henriques scored the solitary goal for the Reds in the 49th minute.

Thangboi Shingto, the coach of Shillong based team made two changes in the team that played against Bengaluru FC on 24th January. Pritam Kumar and Nim Dorjee Tamang were benched and Samuel Shadap and Japanese Yusuke Yamagata were given starts.

The Goan outfit on the other hand made three changes with Augustin Fernandes, Keenen Almeida and Calvin Mbarga making way for Reagan Singh, Saran Singh and Nicolau Colaco.

The away team had the first shot at goal early in the game but the Salgaocar's Scottish forward, Daryll Duffy missed an easy chance. Indian international, Jackichand Singh continued his sublime form for the Greens and created many chances for his team but didn't get much support from his team mates.

Uilliams D'Silva came close to score for the reds in the 28th minute off a free kick only to be denied by a fine save by Salgaocar's custodian, Karanjit Singh.

Jackichand continued with his amazing game and at half hour mark, dribbled past three opposition defenders and passed to Saran Singh who couldn't hold on to the ball and missed the chance. Both the teams went into the half time without disturbing the scoreboard.

Shillong Lajong broke the deadlock with three minutes into the second half when Fabio's free kick landed into the opposition's net giving him and his team their 1st goal of the season.

Jackichand created another good chance for his team in the 57th minute when he sent into a delightful through ball from the right flank but Daryll Duffy failed to provide the final touch as Salgaocar FC missed yet another chance.

The away team kept on pushing hard trying to get that elusive goal but luck was not with them. Gilbert Oliveira's shot in the 70th minute destined for the nets but hit the woodwork much to the chagrin of the Greens.

The home team had the chance to double up their lead in the 87th minute when Penn Orji's shot from a distance was saved by Karanjit Singh only to be headed by Bipin Singh but went wide.

The match ended with the scoreline 1-0 in favour of the home team. For Salgaocar FC, this was their 4th loss in as many matches and they continue to languish at the bottom of the table and now stare at the prospect of relegation.
