The Black Panthers from Kolkata settled for second place in the 2016 All India Mau Nagarpalika Gold Cup, as they went down 5-6 via sudden-death against ONGC Mumbai in the final played at Faizabad Sports Complex in Varanasi on Tuesday.
Right from the start both teams played some spirited football, but despite several close chances on either end, both teams failed to break the deadlock in the regulation time, forcing the game to be decided on penalties where ONGC turned out to be better shooters.
Mohammedan Sporting Club had their chances through Manvir Singh and Leonce Dodoz who could not capitalize, while for ONGC Ghanaian forwrad Enock Annan hit the crossbar and Kailash Patil's shot was saved by keeper.
